We’re almost there . . . Important end-of-year information

12 Jun

Only five more school days until the end of the school year!  Wow!

On Tuesday, students will be bringing home their writing folders and writers’ notebooks from the school year.    The writing folder and its contents are for students & parents to keep and reflect upon. A few notes on the contents of the writing folder: Students are responsible for entering material into the writing folder during designated class time. If there is an assignment missing, your child may have it in his/her possession.  Note:  The end-of-year assessment and one self-chosen essay are not returned to students.  They are kept in a cumulative school folder and passed on to students’ 7th grade English teachers.

Now is a great time for reflection. Review the writing folder and notebook, looking for areas of growth this year and setting goals for 7th grade.  Students, you produced some amazing writing this year!

In closing, I consider every student of mine as a student-for-life. I look forward to watching your growth in these remaining years at Middlesex.

Tues. – WRITE!

24 May

Use your current reading book, or any appropriate reading material at home, to inspire a 20-30 minute writing in your WNB.  Remember that writers borrow from other writers when they:

  • imitate a writer’s form or structure
  • borrow a line/phrase/group of words
  • are inspired by the general setting or ideas in the original writing
  • write with the same mood (feelings) of the other writer

Monday night HW

23 May

Write for 20-30 minutes in WNB (Use the “Writer’s Notebook Help” Page on this website if you get writer’s block.) Just see what comes up!  You can also type if that’s better for your stamina!

For Friday
