Course Overview (for Parents)
6th grade English–An Overview:
As we know, reading and writing are essential for the 21st century and beyond. In 6th grade, students have many opportunities to learn new language arts skills and put them to use. With the bonus of two English teachers, we are able to stretch students to read and write daily in a variety of genres. The sixth grade program at Middlesex addresses the needs of the individual while fostering an atmosphere of collaboration and collective discourse. Our overall goal is to inspire our students to read and write with confidence and enthusiasm, thereby creating life-long readers and writers.
A student’s grade will be assigned based on the following categories, each worth 25%:
- Homework/Participation/Preparedness
- Writing Pieces
- Assessments
- Classwork (including notebook)
